Gujarat NRE Minerals Limited

Gujarat NRE Minerals Limited (GNM) owns and operates NRE No.1 Colliery and NRE Wongawilli Colliery (being consolidated with NRE Avondale Colliery) in the Illawarra Region of New South Wales.

"...During the whole process from designing to implementation Unitech I.T. Solutions was fully involved and I have to congratulate them for producing excellent results. Not only did they assist with a seamless migration (from 1 server and 30/35 users to 5 servers and around 100 users) but also offered lots of assistance afterwards. I have been dealing with them for the last 2 years and I have found them innovative, quite experienced and very responsive (i.e. complete professional)..."

Mr Sanjay Sharma
Company Secretary

There are around five hundred people working in both collieries operating 24/7. The Company is exporting its entire production (ROM Coal) from both the collieries to its parent company in India through Port Kembla, which is located close (~15km) to both Collieries with direct rail access for NRE Wongawilli Colliery and road access for NRE No.1 Colliery.

Major mine developments are in progress to achieve a total production of up to seven million tonnes per annum from both the Collieries by year 2012/13. As a result the number of people is growing and so does our need for bigger and better IT infrastructure. Envisaging the potential growth and acquisition of another colliery (NRE Wongawilli Colliery) we decided on a complete redevelopment of our IT infrastructure in mid 2007.

Prior to the redevelopment there existed a number of challenges that needed to be addressed. These included the logistical problem of integrating three sites into one for operational purposes; the sites had a combination of multiple domain environments; multiple network platforms and
multiple network topologies ranging from LAN to workgroup to standalone.

Unitech I.T. Solutions provided consulting, a strategic direction and implementation services to combine the infrastructure in a single domain environment. The implementation was done in multiple phases to track the company's needs and requirements and minimise downtime.

All current sites are now interlinked with the infrastructure providing expansion capabilities for the future. The new IT infrastructure was successfully designed, developed and implemented within projected time frame.
