Malicious emails have been have been sent to individuals and businesses claiming to be from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission. These emails include malware that infect the targets computer if opened.
The email looks deceptively like an email from the ACCC and encourages the user to “read more”. It has a link to a .pdf file and encourages people to send their contact details. If the link to the .pdf if clicked, a .zip file containing the malicious software will download and extract.
These emails are coming from addresses with @accc.govt.au, which looks like the standard @accc.gov.au, and can easily be misread.
